What is Soundscape? It is a quarterly event hosted by Laurel Ziemienski of Ananda Healing Arts, Holly Emmer of Bay View Drum & Journey Circle, Kathryn Rambo of Purple Otter Studios and Janine Trede for a day of leaning into sound frequency, learning about the benefits of sound, and how to use it in your every day life. This is an ongoing quarterly series where we will bring in different experts to help elevate your awareness to sound and provide you with real life tools and tips to utilize in your own practice.
This April we are excited to welcome Joe Teixeira of Namaste Imports to back to Milwaukee for the 3rd year! About your hosts:
Joe's business is 100% referral based, selling his bowls in person only (no website!). Joe has traveled extensively to India & Nepal every November since 1997 and continues to do so (with the exception of covid) to make his purchases for the following season. He spends hundreds of hours sorting through bowls, picking only the best to sell to his customers with a 95% rejection rate.
From 2005 to 2021 she offered a holistic sound practice that used a combination of Dr. Herbert Benson’s deep relaxation techniques, Tibetan singing bowls, and Reverie harp to help people turn off the body's stress response and rediscover a place of homeostasis and inner peace. Today she works as a wellness coordinator for seniors who struggle with living in poverty, offering classes, resources and programs that focus on helping them gain and retain whole person wellness.
She owns Ananda Healing Arts and offers private Sound Healing sessions out of her studio in Saint Francis as well as group sound baths, cacao ceremonies, local retreats and other events at various venues throughout the Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha areas. She also organizes and hosts international retreats. Laurel is currently working towards her diploma in Holistic Nutrition, specializing in plants as medicine.

Sunday Morning
9-9:45am Bowl sales
10-11:45am The morning will consist of esoteric style classes, something a little different from previous years. Here we will address the magic of sound healing and what it means to be in the “flow”.
Kathryn Rambo will start us out by teaching The Magic of Tone: We will be taking a journey into an alternative way of thinking about and experiencing the sound that your singing bowls produce. In the west, music, and the sound that an instrument makes, is comprised of notes and intervals. The note or sound has no other meaning except in relation to the notes around it, to intervals. In contrast, the primordial music of India, China, and the Hindu traditions, music is sacromagical because it is made up of tones NOT notes. In these cultures, each tone has a center influence and is alive. Tones are experienced as vibrant, living beings, as devas, that interact with each other. We will explore this alternative way of playing and experiencing the living tones of our singing bowls.
Laurel Ziemienski will follow this experience with a class on intuition. Playing Tibetan singing bowls is as much intuitive as it is technical (sometimes more so). In this class Laurel will guide you through an intuition exercise designed to help you tap into that delicate flow in order to create magic with sound. The morning will finish with Joe guiding us in a lesson on chanting, learning how to channel sound through our bodies to help us better tap into the enchantment of sound as a healing experience. We will end the morning in a community chant, harnessing the power of the collective.
Guests will learn:
How to play a singing bowl if you have no musical training
How to break through your existing musical training to find the magic in sound healing
How to experience sound as a tone, rather than a note on a page
How to tap into your own intuitive nature to nurture intuitive sound healing
How to use your own body as a channel for your sound healing practice

It will be a collaborative & highly experiential workshop. The Grand Finale of the weekend will be a group sound bath where we will put our new techniques into practice while bathing each other in the healing vibrations!

How to play multiple bowls together
How to play singing bowls in a group
