  • Casa Collective 21415 West Greenfield Avenue New Berlin, WI, 53146 United States (map)

Ananda Healing Arts & Purple Otter Studio are excited to welcome Joe Teixeira of Namaste Imports to back to Milwaukee for the 2nd year. This informative and inspiring weekend will consist sound baths, various beginner, intermediate & advanced workshops on Tibetan Singing bowls and a chance to purchase exclusive antique Tibetan Singing Bowls from Joe's private collection. For those who attended last year, this year we have worked in more opportunities to for advanced learning and plenty of time to practice and play, on your own and as a group.

About your hosts:

Joe Teixeira has over 25 years experience with Tibetan singing bowls. He started Namaste Imports in 1997, specializing in the import of Tibetan Singing Bowls and over the years he has amassed one of the largest collections of singing bowls in the country. Joe's business is 100% referral based, selling his bowls in person only (no website!), finding him yearly in Milwaukee at Summerfest and Bastille days. Joe has traveled extensively to Inda & Nepal every November since 1997 and continues to do so (with the exception of covid) to make his purchases for the following season. He spends hundreds of hours sorting through bowls, picking only the best to sell to his customers with a 95% rejection rate.

Kathryn Rambo has over 40 years experience as a board-certified music therapist, meditation instructor, reiki master and adult educator. From 2005 to 2021 she offered a holistic sound practice that used a combination of Dr. Herbert Benson’s deep relaxation techniques, Tibetan singing bowls, and Reverie harp to help people turn off the body's stress response and rediscover a place of homeostasis and inner peace. Today she works as a wellness coordinator for seniors who struggle with living in poverty, offering classes, resources and programs that focus on helping them gain and retain whole person wellness.

Laurel Ziemienski is a Sound Practitioner, Cacao Facilitator, Reiki Master Practitioner, Energy Worker, and Meditation Guide. She owns Ananda Healing Arts and offers private Sound Healing sessions out of her studio in Saint Francis as well as group sound baths and cacao ceremonies at various venues throughout the Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha areas. Laurel is a teacher and co-facilitator at the School of Sound & Healing and organizes various retreats throughout the year. She is currently working towards her diploma in Holistic Nutrition.

After the bath Joe will have an exclusive collection of antique Tibetan singing bowls available to purchase for bath attendees only that will not be available for the rest of the weekend.

Saturday: 9am-5:00pm

Saturday will be packed full of informative workshops, designed more for beginner to intermediate but all levels will learn something today! Plus there will be plenty of time to buy as many antique bowls as your heart (and wallet) desires! Joe personally travels to India & Nepal at least once a year to hand pick these special bowls. This is a shopping experience you will not be able to find anywhere else.

Saturday Morning

Joe will spend the morning teaching students the basics of Tibetan singing bowls. What they are, how they work, how to choose a bowl and how to play them. He will teach tapping and ringing (spinning) techniques. You will also learn about the different styles of the bowls and different mallets you can use and why. Everything you want to know about Tibetan singing bowls will be covered here. You will also be given plenty of time to practice these techniques.

Saturday Afternoon

Kathryn Rambo takes over with 2 different workshops. Here are more details:
1. Inner Musician
How can I play a singing bowl when I was told I had no musical bone in my body? How can I possibly play this when I never had a music lesson in my life?  OR how can I play these when there is no music written down for them like Beethoven or Bach and the bowls don’t play pure tones like my piano does?

This workshop will help you recognize that Music is an innate ability in humans, and a basic human instinct. As a species we have been making music for at least 40,000 year according to archeological findings. The Neanderthal flute from a cave in Slovenia  is the oldest known musical instrument in the world, at least 40,000-year-old, and to this day is the best evidence for the existence of music in Neanderthals.

This workshop is for both the trained musician and those who have had little to no musical experience. For the trained musician, the challenge of playing the Tibetan bowls lies in stepping outside the “Western Classical Music Box” and playing from the heart, from the Intuition.  For those with little to no music training, this workshop will help you find and reclaim your Inner Musician who has retreated way deep inside and is waiting to be set free. We will explore creating ‘in the moment Music’, Music that is outside any genre or musical style. We will learn how to play from a place of pure awareness, and play the Music that lives inside of us that is waiting to be heard.

2. Deep Listening
Deep listening is a term coined by composer Pauline Oliveros as a term for her practice of listening. “Deep listening involved going below the surface of what is heard…” We are going to explore an expanded way of listening to the singing bowls using all our senses. As Joe and Laurel play a sound bath you will experience a guided meditation that will take you beyond just hearing (the passive intake of sound as well as physiological process of perceiving sound) into deep listening which is intentional, active. Pauline Oliveros called this “radical attentiveness”.  During the meditation you will be guided to  listen, giving your attention to what you perceive acoustically,  physically, psychologically and spiritually.

Joe will have a wide variety of antique singing bowls available for sale to both attendees and the public on Saturday from 9:00-10:00am, 12:00-1:00pm and 4:00-5:00pm

Sunday: 9:00am -4:00pm

Sunday's classes are designed for the intermediate to advanced student. But the good news is if you are a beginner who attendeds Saturday, you are automatically qualified for Sunday! Plus more time to practice & shop the Tibetan singing bowl table, picking up that one (or 2) bowl/s that have been calling to you but you've tried sooo darn hard to resist!

***It is not required to have your own singing bowls or to purchase bowls for this weekend. Joe will generously have plenty of his own collection available for everyone to use***

Sunday Morning

Joe will spend the morning teaching students how to build your own personal collection of Tibetan singing bowls. You will learn how to effectively arrange them for ease of playing, additional tools needed and why. You will learn about hertz, octaves and frequencies and why they are important when curating your own collection. We will also demonstrate what it looks like to play as a team, how to work off of and with each other to create a fluid sound healing experience.

Sunday Afternoon
For the 2nd part of the day you will be given plenty of time to put your lessons into practice! We will break out into groups and practice playing together. We will learn from each other while Joe, Kathryn & I work with each group to help refine and explore. We will learn how to play together as a group, finding balance between melody and silence. It will be a collaborative & highly experiential workshop. The Grand Finale of the weekend will be a group sound bath where we will put our new techniques into practice while bathing each other in the healing vibrations!

Joe will have a wide variety of antique singing bowls available for sale to both attendees and the public on Sunday from 9:00-10:00am, 12:00-12:30pm and 3:00-4:00pm
